DIRTY DANCING SALES WALTZ TO THE TOP OF THE CHARTS

BVA logoBVA logo13 October 2009: New figures released today by the British Video Association, using data from the Official Charts Company, reveal that Dirty Dancing has blasted into the number five slot of the top ten best selling DVDs.

The significant increase comes as fans flocked to buy Patrick Swayze’s famous ‘coming of age’ film and thereby pay tribute to the actor after his death in September this year.
 

 

Dirty Dancing (Lions Gate Home Entertainment), the 80s classic loved by a generation, now sits in between new release House - Season 5 (Universal Playback) at the number four spot and the re-release of The Jungle Book 40th Anniversary Edition (Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment) at number six.

Sales have increased more than 500 per cent in the weeks following Swayze’s death, with weekly sales peaking at 30,384 at the end of September.

Total recorded sales of Dirty Dancing on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray are now in excess of 4.6 million units.
