Craig McCall directs this documentary tribute to cinematographer Jack Cardiff, who died in April 2009. After working as a cameraman for Hitchcock and for Powell and Pressburger in the 1940s, Cardiff was asked by director Michael Powell to oversee the cinematography for the 1946 film 'A Matter of Life and Death'. Before long he had earned a reputation as a master of Technicolor cinematography, and went on to work on classic films including 'Black Narcissus' (1947), 'The Red Shoes' (1948), 'Pandora and the Flying Dutchman' (1951), 'War and Peace' (1956) and 'The Prince and the Showgirl' (1957). The film combines film clips, home movies, documentary footage and interviews with Cardiff's associates including Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall, Charlton Heston and Martin Scorsese.
