All four episodes of the BBC documentary series following English Heritage as it embarks on four major new projects. The organisation acts as a guardian of England's history and is charged with preserving and maintaining over 350,000 historic and listed buildings, ruins and castles. When Simon Thurley took over as chief executive of English Heritage, he was hailed as the person who could take the organisation into the 21st century - but what was intended and what actually happened were two very different things. Comedy, chaos and bitter political controversy ensue as the credit crunch bites and essential projects are thrown off course.
